Project 4: Typographic Animals
Word list:
Jellyfish, Angler Fish, Angelfish, Cuttlefish, clownfish, pufferfish, flamingo, iguana, monkey, sea turtle, crocodile, Hippo.
I decided to do aquatic type, I went with jellyfish, pufferfish, and anglerfish. They each have an interesting defensive mechanism. Jellyfish with the whole tentacles that can sting, the pufferfish enlarging himself to a spiny looking ball, and the anglerfish is just an ugly lantern looking head that no one really knew about until Finding Nemo. (which I admit I was one of those people, and admit it you were too).
PUFFER
For the Puffer, I downloaded a font called Delicious from DaFont website. You can click here to download it too: Delicious Font. Since he blossoms up to a balloon, I wanted to do a more bubbly type with him. With the spikes, I used Lucida Grande which is a default font on Illustrator.
ANGLER
Next, I began work on my Angler. This ugly guy is a perplexing fish...the design was easy, But MAN he is one ugly fish. No wonder he is so mean. He just wants a friend. I ended up using good ol Helvetica for the font on this one. I did end up changing the r from lowercase to uppercase, even though I LOVED how the r looked as a lowercase, the uppercase was the better decision in making this.
JELLYFISH
THIS guy, who I thought would be the easiest, turned out to be my Everest. I wanted him to have a skinnier font since jellyfish are such delicate creatures. I initially went with a font that was a script, but trashed it and freehanded it.
